Once the sun sets, another day has ended and the night has just begun. The bugs come out to play, the parents kick off their work shoes, and the younger ones come in from a game of kickball with neighborhood friends. I could not think of a better way to spend a Friday night than to invite the gang over for a fire on the patio. I would like to think that roasting marshmallows to charcoal perfection is one of my favorite hobbies, but dancing to old hits with friends is by far one of my best hobbies. My friends and I enjoy jamming to music and having a fun time no matter the house or the occasion… and bonfires are surely no exception.
Whether you build a fire for a small crowd of family and friends or you prefer to invite all the neighbors over, sitting around a warm fire on a brisk night is one of the best summer pastimes. For this reason, I have dug up modern bonfire essentials that offer a twist to the traditional fire get together. So long with the Hershey and graham cracker s’mores and sayonara to sitting on folding chairs, this is the new kind of bonfire that I am definitely dying to try out.
Fudge striped cookie s’more: It’s no secret that s’mores are the staple snack at every bonfire. This alternative to the traditional campfire dessert is just as yummy and way more convenient. Instead of buying graham crackers and Hershey’s chocolate to pair with your toasted marshmallow, just buy fudge striped cookies! All of your guests will be begging for s’more of this tasty treat.
Sticky fingers station: After your guests have devoured their fudge striped dessert, they can head on over to the DIY sticky fingers station! This idea is so brilliant for a host that is expecting children at their bonfire. There is no reason to attempt licking all of the gooey marshmallow remains off your fingers. Instead of running inside to the nearest sink, guests can step over to the sticky hands station to clean their fingers and get back to socializing. This will have all your family and friends raving about how innovative you are!
Hay seating: After all this time sitting around the fire, your guest’s bottoms are sure to go numb… and this is why outdoor seating is one of the most important bonfire essentials! Put your stiff patio furniture to the side and bring festive hay barrels into your yard. These will add a little flare and a whole lot of comfort to your bonfire get together.
Campfire pizza nachos: Nachos are the opposite of the traditional food staple at bonfires, but this campfire pizza snack looks irresistible. Perhaps your friend hates s’mores (but probably not)… these campfire nachos tie right in to the festivity that the hay barrels bring. Another fan favorite that goes great with this snack is pigs in a blanket.
S’mores bar: The up and coming, modern way to provide your guests with s’mores ingredients is with a s’mores bar. This DIY is something that allows you to get as creative as you want! All you need is a cool surface to display the bar and a place to hold the s’mores ingredients (which will include fridge stripes, right?)
I hope that these modern bonfire essentials are as useful to you as I know they will be to me. I would love to see what you do with your next backyard bonfire!
